What Is a Corte?
Corte is the traditional skirt worn by Indigenous Mayan women and is woven on a treadle loom. Length of cortes will vary from village-to-village, but they are typically mid-calf to floor-length. The cloth is sewn into a tube, creating a skirt that the woman steps into, wraps the excess fabric tightly, and then is secured with a sash. Women typically tuck their huipil into their corte.
